Set Up External Devices

This product includes a USB port and a connector for driving external devices as an external device connection.

USB devices can be connected to the USB port for charging. You can also connect a USB-connectable product to the USB-A port to operate it synchronized with the printer. <Other than MCP30>

When connecting a tablet, smartphone, or other device for the purpose of communication, refer to Connect USB Cable.

You can connect a separately sold melody speaker, buzzer, or cash drawer to the external device drive connector to operate it synchronized with the printer.


Before and after connecting the cable to the rear panel, remove and mount the rear cover respectively.

USB-A port

Connect the cable of the tablet or other USB device that you are using to the USB-A (2.4A/0.5A) port to charge your USB device (1.5A max./0.5A max.). You can also connect a USB-connectable product* to the USB-A port to operate it synchronized with the printer.

*USB-connectable product: BSH-20U, BSH-20B, BSD-40U, BSH-32U, BSH-32B, SCD222U, BCR-POP1, USB HID class (keyboard mode) devices

A USB cable for USB connection is not included in the accessories. Use a USB cable commercially available or included with the USB device.

Caution

  • When the USB-B port is in use, communication is not performed with iOS devices or USB-connectable products at the USB-A (2.4A) port. Only power supply (1.5A max.) is performed.
  • Only one barcode reader and one customer display can be connected to each printer.
  • Available only if your application (or system) supports barcode reader and customer display. Please check with your application (or system) provider for support status.

1. Connect the USB cable to the printer

  • Connect the USB cable connector to the port located on the rear of the printer.

Example: MCP31L, MCP31LB

Note

  • Printer communication via the USB-A port is only possible with iOS devices and USB connectable products.
  • When a device that only supports USB charging is connected to the USB port 2.4A or USB port 0.5A, the LED flashes. LED Display - Device that can only be charged via USB is connected
  • Power may not be supplied depending on the type of tablet you are using. If power cannot be supplied, please use the charger included with the USB device.
  • 2. Connect cables

    • Cable outlets are provided in 3 locations (right, left, and back), and cables can be connected to suit the location where the device is placed.
    USB-C port

    Connect the cable you use with tablets and USB devices to the USB-C port to charge your USB devices.
    The response of the printer and power that can be supplied after connecting the cable varies depending on the interface of the tablet, smartphone, or PC used, and on the type of USB cable used. When supplying power, use a cable that supports communication for the interface of that device.

    1. Connect the USB cable to the printer

    • Connect the USB cable connector to the printer USB-C port.

    Note

  • USB PD (USB Power Delivery) *When using a USB-C ↔ USB-C cable to connect a device that does not support USB PD, the printer will perform either printing or power supply. When connecting for the purpose of power supply from the printer, switch the printer USB-C function to “Power Supply” before use. Switch USB-C Function
  • * USB PD (USB Power Delivery):
    This is the standard for power supply using USB You can check whether or not the device you are using supports USB PD by using the special app from an Android device. For details, refer to Use App.

  • When connecting using a USB micro-B ↔ USB-C cable, switching the printer USB-C function to “Power Supply” will enable power supply of maximum 7.5W (5V/1.5A). Switch USB-C Function
  • Even when using a device (such as a tablet or PC) that supports USB PD, charging may not be possible depending on the device specifications.
  • When charging is not possible, please use the charger included with the USB device.
  • 2. Connect cables

    • Cable outlets are provided in 3 locations (right, left, and back), and cables can be connected to suit the location where the device is placed.
    USB-A port

    Connect the cable you use with tablets and USB devices to the USB port 0.5A to supply power (maximum 0.5A) to your USB devices. You can also attach a USB-connectable product* to operate it synchronized with the printer.

    *USB-connectable product: SCD222U, BCR-POP1, USB HID class (keyboard mode) devices

    A USB cable for connection to the USB-A port is not included in the accessories. Use a USB cable commercially available or included with the USB device.

    External device drive connector

    If you connect a separately sold melody speaker, buzzer, or cash drawer, you can make the speaker or buzzer sound, or the cash drawer open, synchronized with operation of the printer.

    Settings can be performed using the command or can also be performed by using the dedicated app or software. For details, refer to the command specifications or the corresponding manual.

    1. Turn power off

    • Turn the power of the printer off, and pull the power plug out of the electrical outlet.

    2. Connect the external device cable

    • Plug the modular jack to the external device drive connector on the back of the printer.
    • Cables are not included in the accessories. Use a commercially available cable or one included with the external device.

    3. Connect cables

    • Cable outlets are provided in 3 locations (right, left, and back), and cables can be connected to suit the location where the device is placed.

    Caution

  • Do not connect a telephone line to the external device drive connector as it will cause the printer to malfunction.
  • To ensure safety, avoid using wiring connections that may cause an excessive voltage to be applied to the external device drive connector.
  • Please turn off a printer and pull out the power plug from the AC outlet and be sure to wait for more than 30 seconds before you connect/remove Melody Speaker.
