Release of TSP100IV SK, a Linerless Sticky Label Printer

Star Micronics Co., Ltd. has developed a linerless sticky label printer that supports repositionable labels to meet the label needs of restaurants and retail stores. It will be released in February 2024.

In recent years, store operations have become more complex due to the diversification of ordering methods and product types in restaurants and retail stores. To reduce operational errors and realize efficient store operations, a label printing system linked to the store system has become indispensable. In mid-2023, we started selling the new label printer “mC-Label3,” which can handle a variety of media types with one unit, and it has been well received.

There are various types of labels, but in recent years, labels without liner (hereinafter referred to as linerless labels) have become increasingly popular for reasons such as “can be printed with any label length,” “there’s no need to peel off the liner paper from the label” and “eco-friendly without unnecessary waste.” There are two main types of linerless labels: “permanent” labels, which have strong adhesiveness, and “sticky” labels, which have weak adhesiveness. The sticky label is characterized by the fact that it is removable and re-appliable and is effective in the following usage scenarios.

• 1 label for 2 purposes in restaurants
  e.g., temporarily used as a slip for order cooking and attached to the delivery bag after cooking is completed
• A consumer peels off the product label
  e.g., separation of garbage when disposing of lunch boxes and delicatessen packages

By specializing in linerless sticky labels, the TSP100IV SK has achieved further downsizing compared to existing models and can be used in stores with limited installation space. Additionally, by supporting the same software as our best-selling receipt printer, the TSP100 series, it provides an easy-to-use environment for in-store software developers.

TSP100IV SK aims to further increase its share in the expanding label printer market by selling in North and South America, Europe, and Asia, including Japan. In addition, we will contribute to protecting the global environment by creating environmentally friendly products.

As the TSP100IV series, we will continue to adopt the appearance of the polygon design that matches the next-generation store solution. While maintaining the convenience of a built-in power supply, it achieves a compact size as a desktop label printer.

Abundant software development environment

Like the existing TSP100IV-UE (receipt printer), the TSP100IV SK comes with a development kit that can be used with various OS such as iOS (*1), Android™ (*2), and Windows® (*3), various drivers, utilities and online manual. It also supports “CloudPRNT™,” which allows direct printing from a remote server, so you can directly print orders received via the cloud, such as online orders.

Equipped with dual interface

Equipped with USB and LAN interfaces as standard, which contribute to convenience and flexibility in in-store systems such as POS, there is no need to have inventory for each interface to contribute to operations. The USB-A interface supports the Android Open Accessory protocol (*4), allowing wired communication and power supply from an Android device at the same time. By connecting the optional Wireless LAN Unit, wireless LAN support has also been realized.
